5 TIPS TO TIDY UP YOUR THINKING

Although it’s 30 degrees in Cleveland, it’s Spring.Time has been flying and it’s hard to believe that it’s already Spring. It seems as though we were just ringing in the new year.

As you know, Spring is the ideal time to freshen things up. We often clean our homes, landscape our yard and de-clutter our physical space during this time of year- but what about our internal space?

Spring is the perfect time of year to get rid of the thoughts, habits and mental clutter that keep you from living a happier, more fulfilling life.

Here are 5 Spring Cleaning Tips to help you eliminate old thoughts, ideas and habits that are no longer serving you.

1. Spruce up your self-talk. Instead of negative thoughts and criticisms try to rewire what you think. If you have a stream of negative thoughts pop up in your mind decide if those thoughts are serving you or not. Choose to focus on thoughts that are beneficial to you. A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself if you would say those things to a loved one. This skill takes plenty of practice but it can make a huge difference in your life.

2. Dust off your journal. Writing is a great way to clear up mental clutter. When we write down our ideas we free up space in our mind for new ideas. Writing also allows us to express ourselves and release pent up feelings.

3. Reseal Social Connections. We’re all so busy, busy, busy that we barely make time to spend with our friends and loved ones. Hanging out with friends, laughing and sharing is a great way to reduce stress. When we make the time to have face-to-face interactions with our friends it boosts our mood and increases our happiness.

4. Clean up your viewing habits. The overabundance of negativity in the news can be draining. If you find yourself feeling down after watching the news, viewing certain TV shows or after being on social media it may be helpful for you to adjust your viewing habits. Try reading positive articles. posting positive quotes or watching an old feel-good movie. Make a point to be selective about what you allow in your space.

5.  Polish up your morning routine. The way that you get your day started has a huge impact on the rest of your day. Create a 10-15 minute  routine that  includes something physical, mental and spiritual. The key here is to nurture yourself daily.

So, as the saying goes- out with old and in with the new. What old thoughts, beliefs or habits do you plan to discard this spring?
